KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Engkilili chairman Kua Jack Seng has called out opposition leaders for playing the blame game and turning technical matters into political mileage.
The political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak said recent remarks by Democratic Action Party’s (DAP) Lam Li Kang and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong over the old parking coupon refund issue reflected a pattern of politicising routine administrative matters.
“Instead of engaging directly with local councils to resolve issues, some politicians prefer to dramatise policy adjustments and frame them as government failures,” he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 7).
Kua said the refund mechanism for unused parking coupons had been announced with clear deadlines and proper procedures, with public assistance available through council offices.
He said the transition of parking systems in South and North Kuching was part of the state’s move towards cashless and smart urban management aimed at improving efficiency and reducing waste.
“Citizens deserve problem-solvers, not politicians who manufacture controversies for attention. True integrity is built on consistency and transparency, not on empty slogans or partisan finger-pointing.”
Kua added that while certain opposition figures often call for transparency, they rarely apply the same standards to their own governance practices.
He said the Sarawak government remains focused on pragmatic, inclusive and forward-looking governance, welcoming constructive feedback that supports effective service delivery.
“The digitalisation of local systems, including parking management, is designed to make city life more efficient, transparent and accountable.
“Constructive feedback is always welcome; political opportunism is not.”
Kua stressed that public trust must be earned through sincerity and service, not self-promotion or manufactured outrage, adding that when politics becomes a performance rather than a responsibility, it erodes administrative integrity.
