BINTANGOR: The riverfront here is set for a major upgrade as Pesta Meradong 2025 kicks off, showcasing local culture, unity and entrepreneurship while boosting the district’s economy.

Tanjong Manis MP Datuk Yusuf Abd Wahab said the Sarawak government, through the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA), will implement the Bintangor Waterfront Project to beautify the riverbank and create a strategic venue for future major events.

“Upgrading sports and recreational facilities such as the sports complex, basketball courts and public parks will ensure that future editions of Pesta Meradong are better organised and have greater impact on the community,” he said this during the Pesta Meradong 2025 opening ceremony on Saturday.

Yusuf further said the festival’s revival this year goes beyond entertainment, providing a platform for the community to showcase culture, unity and entrepreneurship.

“This festival allows locals and visitors to experience the richness of our diverse cultures while contributing to the growth of the local economy,” he said

Yusuf noted this is the second edition since the festival’s rebranding from Pesta Bintangor to Pesta Meradong, reflecting the district’s renewed identity as a progressive and competitive hub.

He added that the festival serves as a bridge of unity, featuring programmes encompassing sports, culture, entrepreneurship, health and education that benefit residents from all walks of life.

Meanwhile, a total of 21 events were held under eight main clusters, including the Strongman Competition, Pekit Kumang Ngepan Iban, Lantern and Float Parade, and Chinese Cultural Night, celebrating the district’s vibrant multiculturalism.

More than 100 stalls were also set up, providing local entrepreneurs with a platform to market their products and boost the local economy.
