Premier in Seoul to attend RISEAP meeting

SEOUL, South Korea: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has arrived here to attend the 36th Executive Committee Meeting of the Regional Islamic Da’wah Council of Southeast Asia and the Pacific (RISEAP).

Abang Johari landed at Incheon International Airport at about 9:25 pm local time on Tuesday night.

He was welcomed by Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Project Coordination for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi; Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib; RISEAP Honorary Secretary, Datuk Mohamad Marzuki Mohamad Omar; Sarawak Islamic Council President, Datuk Misnu Taha; and Sarawak Mufti, Datuk Kipli Yasin.

Today, Abang Johari, who is also the President of RISEAP, is scheduled to chair the 36th RISEAP Executive Committee Meeting at The Plaza Seoul Hotel, which will also be attended by representatives from other member countries, including Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.

Among the meeting’s agenda items are the proposal to admit Timor Leste as a new RISEAP member, presentation of the progress report from the RISEAP office in Kuching, and updates from the northern, central, and southern zones as well as the Women’s Wing for 2025.

In addition, the Premier and other executive members are expected to discuss the venue for the 21st RISEAP General Assembly in 2026, along with other matters focused on strengthening regional Muslim communities in the areas of religious outreach and socio-economic development.

In the afternoon, Abang Johari is scheduled to officiate at the opening of the Korea Muslim Federation (KMF) Kindergarten, the upgrading of the Seoul Central Mosque, and the KMF Halal Department.

He will also attend a briefing session with members of the KMF before concluding his two-day working visit to South Korea.

The Premier is scheduled to return to Kuching tomorrow (Thursday, Nov. 13).
