NORTH SUMATRA, Indonesia: Sarawak and North Sumatra are exploring closer cooperation in agriculture and fisheries following a courtesy visit by Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Deputy Minister, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail, to North Sumatra State Secretary, Sulaiman Harahap, on Wednesday.
During the meeting at the Governor’s Office, both sides exchanged views on areas where the two regions could work together, particularly in methane gas production from palm oil by-products and commercial tilapia farming.
These initiatives are viewed as having the potential to broaden economic links while encouraging the adoption of new technologies.
Dr Abdul Rahman said such collaborations would bring mutual benefits, especially in boosting productivity, creating higher-value agricultural and fisheries activities, and supporting sustainable development in rural areas of both regions.
