GEDONG: The proposed riverbank stabilisation project for Sungai Kampung Gumpey has been listed under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), says Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee.
However, she noted that the approval process is still at an early stage.
“The project requires time before it can be fully implemented,” said Rodiyah during a site visit here recently.
During a technical briefing, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) Samarahan engineer Rudi Abang Zamhari said the long-term proposal involves constructing a 500-metre erosion-control structure.
He said the design must be planned carefully to avoid altering the river flow, which could shift erosion to other areas, potentially affecting two nearby houses and a school.
As an interim measure, DID has proposed early mitigation works beginning in 2026. The technical team will conduct a detailed survey, including bank measurements and erosion assessments, before preparing a proposal paper for the temporary project.
