KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Works Department (PWD) is currently responsible for overseeing 7,102 development projects worth RM81.364 billion.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the projects comprise those funded by both the Sarawak and federal governments, with 3,607 projects completed and 1,265 still under construction.
In a Facebook post by PWD Sarawak, Uggah, who is also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, highlighted the scale of the department’s responsibilities during the department’s 2026 Appreciation Ceremony held here recently.
He also called on PWD Sarawak personnel to uphold the six shared values of the Sarawak Public Service and give serious attention to delayed projects, particularly those facing critical delays.
Uggah stressed that cooperation between department personnel and relevant agencies, together with improvements to work processes and standard operating procedures (SOPs), must be strengthened to ensure issues are resolved swiftly and effectively.
He also expressed appreciation to PWD Sarawak retirees and soon-to-retire personnel for their service and contributions, urging them to continue sharing their knowledge and experience with the younger generation.
The 2026 Appreciation Ceremony also recognises 229 recipients of the 2025 Excellent Service Award (APC) for their commitment, discipline and outstanding performance, alongside 68 retirees and soon-to-retire personnel.
Meanwhile, PWD Sarawak director Datuk Dr Cassidy Morris expressed appreciation to Uggah for his continued support of JKR Sarawak.
He also highlighted the department’s achievements in implementing various projects, describing them as a reflection of JKR Sarawak’s commitment and capacity to meet the State’s development needs.
The department said its personnel are expected to remain committed, inspire one another and deliver the best possible service towards Sarawak’s development and the wellbeing of the people.
