KUCHING: The passing of Puan Sri Datin Amar Lim Su Kheng has left a profound void in Sarawak’s charitable landscape, particularly within the Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-Isteri Sarawak (SABATI), where she was widely recognised as a dedicated and influential figure.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg praised her longstanding commitment to community welfare and her contributions to SABATI, describing her as one of the most respected individuals among the spouses of state leaders.

“For us, especially the ministers’ wives in SABATI, her passing is a tremendous loss. She gave so much to the work of the organisation and was always warm and kind to the community,” he said.

He added that during her active years with SABATI, the late Puan Sri Lim played a pivotal role in driving a wide range of community and charitable initiatives.

“Of course, my colleagues and I feel her absence deeply. She was a tremendous support to us in many community-related matters,” he added.

Abang Johari made these remarks after paying his last respects to the late Puan Sri at Dr Sim’s family residence here on Tuesday (November 18). He also conveyed condolences on behalf of the state leadership to Dr Sim and his family.

“We express our deepest condolences to Dr Sim on the loss of his beloved mother. May the family be granted patience and strength during this difficult period,” he said.

Several state leaders were present to offer their respects, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas; Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah; Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom; and Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin; Utility and Telecommunications Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi; and Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad) and Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki were also among those who came to pay their respects.

For the record, her late husband, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Sim Kheng Hong, served as Deputy Chief Minister from 1974 to 1991.
