SIBU: Two hundred delegates from 11 countries have convened for the 24th Human Life International Asia Pacific Congress (HLI ASPAC) here from Nov 21-23.
The congress, themed ‘I Praise You Because I Am Fearfully and Wonderfully Made’, has brought together religious leaders, policy experts, activists and representatives of the public and private sectors from India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States, Malaysia, Italy and Poland.
The programme, organised by Human Life International (HLI) in collaboration with the Sibu Love and Welfare Organisation (SLWO), is seen as recognition of Sibu’s ability to organise regional-scale events that touch on humanitarian and family issues.
Sibu Division Resident, Abang Mohamad Porkan Abang Budiman, described the congress as a strategic platform to strengthen Sibu’s role in the global discourse on human dignity.
“The theme of this congress reflects the appreciation of the value of every human being. In a world facing social and moral challenges, Sibu is an important place for dialogue that strengthens the values of family and community,” he said.
He said this in his speech read by 24th ASPAC Local Organising Committee Chairperson, Eta Ting Ming Na, at the event’s opening ceremony here Friday.
Porkan also recognised the organisers’ efforts in bringing together regional figures to discuss issues of life, family and moral responsibility, which he said could have an impact on building a society based on respect, compassion and integrity.
The three-day congress will feature presentations, dialogue and sharing of experiences.
