LUNDU: Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Raso has unveiled its newly completed sports court, marking a key upgrade to educational facilities in rural areas.
Opar state assemblyman, Billy Sujang, expressed pride in seeing the strong commitment shown by the school in ensuring that every allocation received was used optimally, systematically, and with high impact for pupils.
He explained that during his visit earlier this year, the sports court and several other facilities were still incomplete, leading him to channel funds to meet the school’s request.

“As a result, the court that was initially unusable has now transformed, with repairs and proper restructuring carried out, creating a much better and more appealing facility,” he said during the court’s officiation ceremony on Friday.
Billy said the next development plan will focus on constructing a new football field for the school, a process that will involve site alignment, surveying work, removal of several old structures and preparation of technical plans with the Public Works Department (JKR), as any major construction within a school area must obtain approval from the agency.
He added that the project will be brought to the project approval meeting in January 2026, as there will be no new meetings held at the end of December.
Billy further revealed that more than 41 projects in the Opar constituency have been completed through various allocations, including the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), and school maintenance funds, with a total value amounting to tens of millions of ringgit.
He noted that although the original five year allocation of RM15 million has been fully utilised, he successfully obtained a remaining project balance of RM7.9 million for the next year, part of which will be considered to expedite the construction of the football field at SK Raso.
In his explanation, he stressed that all projects implemented are aimed at delivering direct benefits to the people without any leakage, and that the principle will continue to be upheld as long as he is entrusted as a representative of the people.
Additionally, Billy touched on development in other schools within Opar that are being completed in stages, including a RM5-million project to replace an old school building that is now deteriorating.
He emphasised that educational development remains one of his priorities before moving into the next phase of improving the local economy, including agricultural projects such as coffee planting and upgrading farm roads to ease the transport of agricultural products.
He hopes that today’s improvements in school infrastructure and educational support will lay the foundation for the success of the younger generation in the area in the future.
