SARAWAK’S push toward becoming a regional leader in technology-driven innovation will accelerate in 2026, with the state government allocating RM5 million to support the operations and strategic functions of the Sarawak Artificial Intelligence Centre (SAIC).

Established in 2025, SAIC is a flagship initiative designed to position Sarawak at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) development and digital innovation.

The centre focuses on advancing AI applications across key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education and manufacturing.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said by fostering strong public-private partnerships and collaborating with both local and international experts, SAIC aims to boost productivity, create high-value jobs, and drive Sarawak’s transformation into a smart, innovation-led economy.

On the same note, he said digital transformation is reshaping public services in Sarawak, with the launch of SarawakPass at IDECS 2025 providing a unified and secure SarawakID-powered digital identity.

“Under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), Sarawak is accelerating the rollout of digital services in areas such as land management, social services, and business facilitation.

“Platforms like eZone and the Integrated Social Platform are enhancing efficiency, improving data accuracy, and strengthening inclusivity to ensure timely and effective delivery of services to the people,” he said in the State Legislative Assembly today.

Meanwhile, he said RM27 million will be allocated to develop and upgrade ICT projects while RM299 million will be provided for system maintenance to ensure reliable and secure digital services in 2026.

“To strengthen the ease of doing business, we are now moving towards smarter and more connected service delivery. This includes simplifying processes, improving coordination across agencies, and using data, automation and platforms to deliver services in a faster and more seamless way,” he said.
