THE proposed Tebedu Economic Hub is expected to become a key driver of future economic expansion in the border district.
Tebedu assemblyman Dr Simon Sinang Bada voiced confidence in the project’s impact, noting that the RM46 million initiative, undertaken by the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA), will open up significant socioeconomic opportunities for local communities.
“We believe the Tebedu Economic Hub has tremendous potential to stimulate future economic growth,” he said, while encouraging residents to take an active role in the project’s development.
Dr Sinang said this when debating the Supply (2026) Bill, 2025 debate at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Thursday (Nov 27).
He noted that Tebedu’s status as an international entry point makes it strategically positioned for trade and tourism.
However, long-planned projects such as the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) complex and upgrades to the Serian–Tebedu road have yet to begin, and he called for their implementation to be expedited to better attract investors and visitors.
Dr Sinang also noted ongoing infrastructure works by the Sarawak government, including the Phase Two construction of the road from Kampung Temong to Darul Huda, Darul Fallah, and Kampung Tepoi.
He hopes Phase Three, extending from Kampung Tepoi to Kampung Sadir, will commence soon.
He extended his appreciation to the Sarawak government and the leadership of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) for approving the various development projects in Tebedu.
