LIVERPOOL: Arne Slot vowed to “keep fighting” as Liverpool’s alarming slump continued, insisting his conversations with the club’s owners remain unchanged despite mounting pressure.

Liverpool were thrashed 4-1 by PSV Eindhoven at Anfield in Wednesday’s Champions League clash — their ninth defeat in 12 matches across all competitions. Large sections of the crowd left early as the 20-time English champions endured their worst run in more than 70 years.

The defending Premier League champions now sit 12th ahead of Sunday’s trip to an improved West Ham under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Slot, who delivered the league title in his first season last year, said he remained confident about his job security. “We’ve had the same conversations since I’ve been here. We fight on and try to improve,” he said at Thursday’s press conference.

The Dutchman admitted Liverpool had dropped below their standards but refused to blame individuals. “The team makes the individuals look very good. If the opposite is happening, we should also look at the team.”

Former captain Steven Gerrard added pressure, calling the situation “close to a crisis” and saying there were “no excuses” after the PSV defeat.

Slot conceded the toll of repeated setbacks, saying his sleep was “not the best” and acknowledging Liverpool’s failure to convert chances while being punished for errors. “We get knock after knock… that’s why we have to keep fighting.”

The Reds manager expects Alisson Becker to return against West Ham after illness, while Florian Wirtz could resume training on Saturday. – AFP
