BALAI RINGIN: Construction of the Serian Regional Water Supply Phase 2 (Stage 1& 2) here is progressing ahead of schedule, bringing treated water closer to hundreds of residents, offices, and public facilities.
Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry & Performing Arts and state assemblyman for Balai Ringin, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, said structural and pipe-laying works at the pump house and genset house, river crossings, bore piles, and interconnection works at the Slabi Water Treatment Plant are proceeding well.
“Distribution and reticulation works to villages and settlements are being undertaken. More than 90 villages in the Balai Ringin sub-district, 20 schools, offices, places of worship, and business premises will benefit from this project.
“Both projects (Stage 1 & 2) commenced in October 2024, are scheduled for completion within 30 months and due by April 2027. Stage 1 is 18 per cent ahead of schedule, whereas Stage 2 is 2 per cent ahead of schedule,” he said in a statement today.

To meet current demand and accommodate future population growth, a high-level tank (HLT) with a capacity of 3 MLD (million litres daily) is being built near Melikin junction to supply about 825 households.
A reservoir with a capacity of 1.8 MLD is also being constructed at Sabal, benefitting around 900 households.
“If you travel along the Pan Borneo Highway from Serian towards Sri Aman, you will notice that pipe-laying is evidently in progress.
“As such, I appeal to residents in Balai Ringin to cooperate with the implementing agency and contractors to ensure smooth delivery of this treated water supply project, for everyone’s benefit and welfare,” he added.
