KUCHING: An Indonesian man was sentenced to four months’ imprisonment and three strokes of the rotan by the Sessions Court today for entering Sarawak without valid travel documents.
Jivrilus Jivo, 23, from Kabupaten Landak, West Kalimantan, pleaded guilty to a charge framed under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, punishable under Section 6(3) of the same Act.
The charge was read before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid.
He was arrested inside a company-owned container at Jalan Mambong-Sarig at about 4:30 pm on November 29.
The offence carries a maximum fine of RM10,000, a jail term of up to five years, or both, and up to six strokes of the rotan.
The court also ordered Jivrilus to be handed over to the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) after completing his sentence.
According to the case facts, a police team raided a container belonging to a health and beauty company during Ops Dadu following suspicion of online gambling activities and detained the accused.
Police also seized several items, including a mobile phone.
Further checks showed he failed to produce any valid travel documents, while an Immigration Department report confirmed there was no record of his entry into Sarawak.
Deputy Public Prosecutor, Asmawi Nur Haqim Mokhtar, prosecuted, while the accused was not represented.
