KUCHING: Parliament might not be the same without the late Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, said Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in his reaction to the Sabah leader’s passing today.
The Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister said Bung had long been recognised for his strong presence in national politics and that his absence would be noticeable after more than four decades in the arena.
He said Bung’s commitment to both Malaysia and Sabah was evident throughout his service, whether in Parliament or in state politics.
“I was surprised to receive the news this morning. Bung was very passionate about politics and a fighter for Sabah and for the country.
“Some people may not like his style, but he had his own way. Personally, I feel Parliament will not be the same without him,” he said during a press conference on Borneo International Textile Festival here today.
Abdul Karim conveyed his condolences to Bung’s family and hoped they would remain strong during this difficult time.
“I also wish to extend my condolences to the United Malay National Organisation (UMNO) leadership in Sabah following the passing of their Barisan Nasional and UMNO Sabah chairman. We will definitely miss him,” he added.
Bung, 66, who served as Kinabatangan MP since 1999, passed away at 1:46 am today at a private hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
His passing came only six days after he narrowly defended the Lamag seat in the Nov 29 Sabah State Election.
