KUCHING: Kota Sentosa assemblyman, Wilfred Yap Yau Sin, officially handed over Letters of Award for two Rural Transformation Project (RTP) developments benefiting residents in the Jalan Semaba area today.

The handover, conducted through the ‘Cabut Undi’ selection process, confirmed the appointment of contractors for two Padawan Municipal Council (MPP)-implemented projects aimed at improving infrastructure and addressing long-standing local concerns.

“The initiatives underscore the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s continued commitment to practical, people-focused development,” said Yap.

“The first project is the upgrading of drainage along Jalan Semaba, located beside the Chin Kiun Thai Ti and Thai Pak Kung temples, awarded to Nur Azan Enterprise at a cost of RM200,000.

“This effort is crucial in tackling flash floods during heavy rain and resolving stagnant water issues that have long affected residents and temple worshippers.

“Once completed, the improved drainage system is expected to enhance water flow, safety and overall environmental conditions in the area.”

The second project involves the upgrading of the road at Lorong Semaba 8, awarded to Syarikat Inai Tujuh Puluh Satu with a project value of RM30,000.

“The road improvement works aim to provide better surface quality, safer access and more comfortable travel for families living along the stretch,” said Yap.

He noted that although the projects are not mega in scale, they carry meaningful impact for the community.

“This handover marks another step forward in ensuring that development reaches the people at the ground level,” he added.

He further affirmed that the GPS-led government will continue prioritising essential infrastructure, particularly drainage and road upgrades, in areas with clear and urgent needs.

He reiterated his commitment to transparent implementation, efficient delivery, and continuous engagement with the Kota Sentosa community to identify future development priorities.

The appointed contractors are expected to commence work immediately in accordance with standard RTP implementation schedules.
