KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s women’s rugby team enters the SEA Games 2025 confident and battle-ready after a year of intensive training, strategic preparation, and opponent analysis.
Mirian rugby athlete Valerie Juan said the squad has honed their strength, endurance, and tactical awareness to perform at their best.

“We have improved our strength and endurance, and studied effective strategies and tactics to face our opponents on the field.
“We worked hard to refine our passing, tackling, and scrum, and we believe we’ve reached our best level for the SEA Games,” she told Sarawak Tribune today (Dec 6).
She added that the team spent months analysing match videos of regional rivals to understand their style of play and prepare counter-strategies.
“We have focused on our weaknesses, trained intensively, and grown stronger as a unit. My expectation for this year is to bring home a silver medal for Malaysia and make our country proud.
“We want to show the world that Malaysia can compete at the international level. We will fight for every point,” she added.
Teammate Josie Mavcellina Gone echoed the same belief, saying the squad’s shared journey over the past year has strengthened their resolve.
“My expectation is that we can give a good performance during the match.
“After all that we’ve been through together since last year, I really hope everybody will give their best. Our target is to get into the final at the SEA Games 2025, and we will give our best to achieve it,” she said.
With preparations complete and confidence quietly building, the team will begin their SEA Games campaign against Singapore on Dec 13.
Malaysia are grouped alongside the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia—setting the stage for a meaningful test of their teamwork, growth, and determination.
