KUCHING: A total of 380 projects under the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) allocation were implemented in 2025, involving RM90 million for the construction, upgrading, and maintenance of houses of worship of various faiths across Sarawak.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said 129 mission schools in the state also received continuous financial assistance amounting to RM20 million to improve facilities and ensure a safe, comfortable, and conducive teaching and learning environment.

“This reflects the strong commitment of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government to the needs of multi-religious communities and efforts to strengthen harmony among the people,” he said during the UNIFOR appreciation ceremony officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg on Sunday (Dec 7).

Uggah added that from 2017 until Nov 20 this year, UNIFOR’s project monitoring and compliance team had overseen 2,640 houses of worship projects and 652 mission school projects, with a total value of RM475 million.

Of these, 1,265 projects have been completed, 1,148 are ongoing, 73 have yet to begin, and 154 have not submitted reports.

For mission school projects, 652 projects were approved, with 375 completed, 239 ongoing, 22 yet to start, and 16 still without reports.

“To those who have yet to submit reports, I urge all religious leaders to advise the parties involved.

“Our policy is clear: if a report is not submitted and the funds have been spent, do not submit a new application, as it will be rejected immediately,” he stressed.

He added that complete records are crucial to help UNIFOR comply with government requirements and ensure transparency in every expenditure.
