BANGKOK: Malaysia’s women’s cricket team features Sarawak’s Nur Dania Syuhada, a “three-dimensional player” with leadership potential and an important role in the SEA Games campaign, says coach Davenell Frederick Whatmore.
At just 20 years old, Nur Dania brings versatility to the squad, excelling with the ball, improving her batting, and demonstrating strong fielding skills.
Whatmore highlighted her as a reliable player whose all-around abilities make her a key asset to the team.
“She ticks a few boxes, you know. She’s very reliable with the ball, she’s learning with a little bit more with the bat, and she’s got a good arm, she can throw.
“She’s a three-dimensional player for the team and very important at a very young age,” he said when met at the Thai Cricket Ground.
Dania, who hails from Kampung Tabuan also carries leadership experience, having captained Malaysia women’s T20 cricket team at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year.
The coach believes she has the potential to develop further as a leader in the future.
“We mustn’t forget she is still young and she is still very much learning.
“And we’re hoping that every now and again she’ll spike up some match-winning performances.
“She’s supporting the group very well so far, which is a good report for the Sarawakian,” he said.
As Malaysia prepares for the SEA Games T10 matches in Bangkok, Nur Dania is expected to play a vital role in the team’s pursuit of podium success.
Their campaign opens with a match versus Philippines on Wednesday (Dec 9) Group B, which includes Thailand, Philippines, Singapore, Myanmar and Indonesia.
