BANGKOK: The 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games kicked off with vibrant energy as accredited media from across the region gathered at the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT).
At NBT, the Main Press Centre (MPC) is located adjacent to the International Broadcasting Centre (IBC).
NBT staff member, Sakkara Rajavatra, shared insights into the venue’s capacity and facilities.
“The MPC has about 30 computers, a main hall lounge, and a canteen. Overall, this floor can accommodate between 100 to 200 people comfortably,” she said.
She added that the building was completed a few years ago and has since hosted various events, including concerts, with additional auditoriums on the upper floors.
For many media practitioners, including Paige Javier of ABS-CBN News from the Philippines, this year marks a special first SEA Games experience.
“We’ve been here since December 7, and the facilities at the main press centre are very nice. I love the big screen where we can watch the broadcasts.
“Media here can also use the computers for research. You really feel the vibe of being accredited media,” she said.
Hsu Nandar Thin of Myanmar’s GT Sports Channel echoed the excitement as a first-time SEA Games reporter.
“I came with GT Sports Channel to cover the live events. The experience has been wonderful – so much knowledge and exposure,” she said.
Seasoned journalist, Alif Amsyar, from Channel News Asia (CNA), praised the warm hospitality shown by the hosts.
“When we arrived at the airport, the volunteers were very helpful in guiding athletes and media to the correct accreditation areas. They also brought us to where we needed to be,” he shared.
Alif, who hails from Singapore, noted that the volunteers were genuinely happy to assist.
“The facilities are new – both hardware and software – so it’s been a great experience,” he added.
Covering his third SEA Games, Alif said he had been eagerly waiting for Thailand to host again.
“It’s very nice to finally be here and experience it,” he said.
Running from December 9 to 20, the 33rd SEA Games is set to deliver a dynamic showcase of sporting excellence and regional unity – with the media playing a crucial role in bringing every moment to audiences across Southeast Asia.
