BANGKOK: Malaysia’s women’s cricket team manager, Dr Nur Shakila Mazalan, is urging the players to bounce back and regroup ahead of tomorrow’s (Thursday) crucial semi-final clash against Thailand at the 2025 SEA Games.
Following a day of mixed results, securing a hard-fought victory over the Philippines but suffering a narrow loss to Myanmar, Malaysia finished second in Group B and now faces top ranked Thailand, who dominated Group A.
Reflecting on the recent performances, Nur Shakila acknowledged the challenges but remained optimistic about the team’s resilience.
“We could say a lot of things about today’s matches. We won against the Philippines but lost to Myanmar.
“Myanmar are a good side and played very well today. But what I can say is, we will try our best for the semi-final against Thailand.
“I hope the girls can bounce back for tomorrow’s match,” she said.
The players appeared visibly distraught after the loss to Myanmar, but the team manager stressed the importance of moving forward quickly.
“I’m pretty sure they will think about what happened today, and try their best for tomorrow’s match,” Nur Shakila added.
Looking ahead to the semi-final against Thailand, Nur Shakila acknowledged the tough challenge but expressed confidence in the squad’s determination.
“Some things need to be learned from today’s match, but the most important thing is tomorrow’s game.
“They need to bounce faster, bounce back, forget about today, and try to improve on what they can do tomorrow. So, please pray for us!” she said.
The semi-final is scheduled for tomorrow at Terdthai Cricket Grounds at 9:00 am (Thai time) and promises to be a thrilling contest between two of the region’s top women’s cricket teams.
