SERIAN: Balai Ringin is set to welcome a new township, ushering in fresh opportunities and growth for the area.
Chairman of the Serian District Council (SDC), Datuk Peter Minos, described the development as a long-awaited breakthrough for the local community, promising both economic and social benefits.
“Thanks to the efforts of (assemblyman) Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Balai Ringin will soon have a new township along with other supporting developments.
“The locals are genuinely happy. To them, this is something very good and great,” he added.
He also noted that the SDC is enhancing existing facilities, including the Balai Ringin market and other public utilities, to complement the township project.
Situated along the busy Serian-Sri Aman road, Balai Ringin is already a well-known rest stop for travellers.
Its bazaar is famed for fresh river fish, freshwater lobsters and locally grown vegetables, making it an important economic hub for nearby villages.
Minos further highlighted the rich cultural heritage of the Iban community, describing them as warm and friendly with deep-rooted traditions.
“These cultural elements will be incorporated into the township’s design, ensuring the community’s identity is preserved,” he said, adding residents have expressed their gratitude for the project, particularly towards Snowdan.
“They truly appreciate all the efforts put in. I am happy for them too,” Minos added.
The new township is expected to bring long-term growth, improved infrastructure and broader economic opportunities for Balai Ringin and its surrounding areas.
