MERADONG: Two men were arrested by police during an operation (Ops Bersepadu) in Bintangor on Thursday (Dec 11) for suspected involvement in drug activity.

Meradong police chief DSP Tansli Mering said the suspects, aged in their 30s, were picked up around 11.45 am, while police were conducting operations in a village within the Bintangor area.

“They were subsequently brought to the Meradong district police headquarters (IPD) for further action.

“Urine screening carried out at the Meradong Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) office found both men positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said in his statement.

Tansli added that background checks showed the suspects had prior criminal or drug-related records.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or a jail term not exceeding two years upon conviction.

Tansli appealed to the public to channel any information on drug-related activities in the district to the Bintangor Police Station at 084-693222.
