KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is looking to expand its collaboration with Denmark, particularly in student exchanges and research related to environmental management.

UNIMAS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation), Prof. Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib, said the university welcomed broader engagement with Danish institutions, adding that its long-standing partnership with the University of Copenhagen had already strengthened academic ties between the two countries.

“At UNIMAS, we always welcome greater collaboration with students and universities from Denmark. We already have ongoing cooperation with the University of Copenhagen.

“Each year, we host Danish students conducting research in environmental management, and we hope to broaden this cooperation through future student and staff exchanges to enhance academic capacity at UNIMAS,” she said.

She told the media this after attending the official visit of the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman, Christian Britten Lundblad, and Ambassador Royal Danish Embassy in Malaysia, Kirstine Vangkilde, at DeTAR Putra here today.

The visit featured a public dialogue titled ‘The World of the Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman and Why Denmark Is the Least Corrupt Country in the World’, delivered by Lundblad and the Director of International Relations at the Ombudsman’s Office, Klavs Duus Kinnerup Hede.

Siti said the visit also offered valuable insight into Denmark’s parliamentary oversight structure, which is often cited as a global benchmark.

“We truly appreciate this visit. It gives us a deeper understanding of the systems and practices that support Denmark’s parliamentary governance.

“These are elements we can learn from, both at the national level and in Sarawak, particularly in strengthening mechanisms related to checks and balances,” she added.
