KUCHING: A total of 36 participants from the Land and Survey Department Sarawak and Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) were officially awarded the Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency – Basic (RCOC-B).
Sarawak Land and Survey Department’s Director, Datuk Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood, said that the integration of drone technology strengthens operational effectiveness, improves accuracy, enhances efficiency, and reduces risks.
“The successful completion of this training demonstrates that our workforce is prepared and motivated to adopt advanced tools that support Sarawak’s digital transformation,” he said in his speech during the event at the Chemsain Auditorium here on Thursday.
Meanwhile, DBKU’s Director, Ramzi Abdillah, emphasised that strengthening drone capability aligns with the council’s efforts to achieve smarter municipal operations and better public services.
“Let this milestone be the beginning of greater advancements, not only for the participants but for DBKU as a whole.
“Together, let’s continue driving Kuching towards a clean, beautiful, smart, safe and sustainable future,” he said, adding his appreciation to the Land and Survey Department for the collaboration.
Following his remarks, Executive Director of Chemsain Human Resource Development (HRD), Dr John Chan, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting government agencies through technical capacity building and potential research and development initiatives in drone technology.
The event marked the conclusion of a structured five-day RCOC-B training programme conducted by Chemsain HRD in multiple batches from August to November this year.
Approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM), the certification equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required for safe, responsible and compliant drone operations.
Both the Land and Survey Department Sarawak and DBKU view the certification as a step towards technology-driven service delivery, including applications in data collection, operational planning and smart city initiatives.
In line with this direction, Chemsain continues to develop drone competency across government and industry through specialised training and technical programmes.
