BANGKOK: The Malaysian women’s cricket team showed great determination to beat Myanmar by 27 runs and win the bronze medal at the SEA Games Women’s T10 Cricket Tournament.

Malaysia posted a total of 74 runs for 5 wickets in their 10 overs, while Myanmar managed 47 runs for 6 wickets in their allotted overs.

The victory at the TerdThai Cricket Ground marked a strong finish for the Malaysian team, who overcame a rocky start to the tournament.

Team manager, Dr Nur Shakila Mazalan, expressed pride in the team’s mental strength.

“We didn’t start the tournament the way we hoped, but what mattered most was how the girls responded.

“They chose resilience over doubt, and belief over fear,” she made these remarks when contacted today.

She added that bouncing back to win the bronze medal for Malaysia is a testament to their fighting spirit.

Earlier in the group stage, Malaysia began confidently with a commanding 26-run win against the Philippines, chasing down a target of 67 runs with solid batting and disciplined bowling.

However, their momentum was disrupted by a narrow 4-wicket loss to Myanmar.

In the semi-final, Thailand delivered a commanding performance to defeat Malaysia by 51 runs, ending Malaysia’s hopes for a gold medal in the T10 format.

Looking ahead, Dr Nur Shakila said the team is now fully focused on the upcoming Women’s T20 competition next week, aiming to build on their momentum and achieve further success.

“We are proud of this result, and now our full focus shifts to the T20 competition next week as we continue building momentum,” she added.
