KUCHING: The Boyan, Gersik and Sourabaya (BGS) 2025 Grand Gotong-Royong Programme continues to play a vital role in fostering a strong culture of cleanliness and community cooperation within areas under the administration of Kuching North City Hall (DBKU).
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs), Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the initiative reflected the collective responsibility of residents, local authorities and volunteers in preserving the cleanliness of villages recognised as tourism destinations.
“The BGS area frequently welcomes visitors and tourists, making consistent cleanliness essential in ensuring a safe, pleasant and welcoming environment,”he said.
He said this when speaking to the media at Boyan (BGS) Gotong-Royong Programme at the BGS Riverfront, Kampung Sourabaya yesterday (Dec13).
“The programme brings together villagers, non-governmental organisations and volunteer groups to work collectively in cleaning the area and enhancing environmental awareness.
“This is particularly important as BGS villages are tourism villages that receive regular visitors,”he said.
He added that following discussions with the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), village chief and village heads from four villages, the programme had been agreed upon as an annual activity with continued support from DBKU, particularly in terms of logistics and waste management.
He explained that the clean-up activities covered riverbanks, roadways, drainage systems, village back lanes and cemetery areas.
“Similar community-based cleanliness programmes would be gradually extended to other State Assembly constituencies (DUNs) under DBKU’s administration, including Semariang, Tupong, Satok and Demak Laut,”he said.
Also present were Kuching North Mayor Datuk Hilmy Othman at the event.
