KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching stepped in to assist a malnourished nine-year-old boy from an underprivileged family following a referral by a Klinik Kesihatan social worker.
The non-governmental organisation (NGO) team travelled to Kampung Sampun, Asajaya, facing challenges locating the family home due to unclear directions and relied on a teacher and neighbours.
“I want to be strong and go to school every day like my friends,” said Remy Tumas, diagnosed underweight, when met by volunteers.
Tumas, 54, works as a fisherman and small-scale farmer, earning RM500 to RM800 monthly, and struggling to support his wife and two schoolgoing children.
His wife Chong Helena, 29, is illiterate, while both parents only studied until Form Two and are managing diabetes with regular medication.
Hope Place is providing continuous food aid to ease the family’s burden, thanking donors and inviting public support through donations and official contact channels.
