KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 1,707 graduates of Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak will receive their scrolls during the 103rd UiTM Convocation Ceremony, held over three days from Dec 16.

UiTM Pro-Chancellor, Datuk Abdul Wahab Aziz, said the first session of the convocation saw the conferment of bachelor’s degrees and diplomas to 286 graduates from the Faculty of Administrative Science and Policy Studies.

He said UiTM remains committed to producing competent, competitive graduates who are relevant to current needs.

“Congratulations to the graduates who have completed their studies; your efforts, sacrifices, and diligence have finally borne meaningful results.

“Congratulations also to parents, families, lecturers, and the entire university administration who have been the pillars in shaping the outstanding individuals we celebrate today,” he said.

He was delivering the conferment speech at the ceremony held at Dewan Jubli, UiTM Sarawak Branch, Samarahan Campus on Tuesday (Dec 16).

At the same time, Abdul Wahab shared that the employment rate for UiTM 2024 graduates has reached 92.1 per cent, thanks to the university’s ongoing efforts to strengthen graduate employability through strategic collaborations with industries and key agencies.

“UiTM Sarawak, in particular, works closely with the Sarawak government, Konsortium Bumi Consultant and Services, as well as foreign universities such as National Formosa University, Taiwan, and Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Indonesia.

“These efforts have produced very proud results, elevating UiTM’s reputation as it is recognised as the Employer’s Choice University by Talentbank,” he said.

Abdul Wahab said this achievement demonstrates the continuous commitment of all UiTM staff to ensure that graduates are not only academically competent but also ready to face the challenges of the working world.

“In line with this, various strategic initiatives are implemented to strengthen the quality of teaching, research, and innovation, especially in preparing students for global challenges through active participation in international programmes.

“For example, the University Intercultural Exchange 2025: Mapping Sarawak to the World in Dublin, Ireland, and Come Discover Bumi Kenyalang 2025, which gathers students from Indonesia, China, and Cambodia,” he said.

Abdul Wahab also commented that the celebrated success marks the beginning of a broader and more challenging journey for the graduates.

“Today’s world demands graduates who excel not only academically but also possess strong character, integrity, leadership, and the ability to contribute positively to society.

“Be alumni who remember their roots and proudly elevate the university’s reputation, because with the knowledge, experience, and skills gained here, you can contribute to your family, organisations, society and nation,” he added.
