From glistening seafood and festive roasts to local favourites and a dessert table straight out of a fairy tale, Sheraton Kuching’s Whimsical Wonderland buffet turns Christmas dining into something truly unforgettable.

A feast for the senses at Sheraton Kuching this Christmas

AS the year gently winds down and Christmas lights begin to glow a little brighter, there is something deeply comforting about gathering around a table filled with good food, familiar laughter and the promise of a fresh new beginning.

At Sheraton Kuching Hotel, the festive season is being celebrated in generous, joyful fashion with its Christmas buffet theme, ‘The Whimsical Wonderland’ – a dining experience designed to turn year-end meals into memories worth savouring.

From the moment guests step inside, they are greeted by a festive spectacle.

The Christmas décor winds its way from the hotel entrance, through the sparkling lobby, and right into Nomadic Restaurant, where the ‘Whimsical Wonderland’ buffet awaits, transforming the space into a magical wonderland of twinkling lights, vivid colours, and joyful seasonal charm – a setting almost too enchanting to leave.

It is undeniably Instagram-worthy – perfect for festive OOTDs, family photos, or the annual Christmas group shot before heading to dinner. Yet beyond the pretty trimmings, it is the food that truly takes centre stage.

A Christmas feast to linger over

The Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Dinner Buffet will be served on December 24 and 25, from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm, priced at RM298 nett per person.

Designed for unhurried evenings, the buffet encourages diners to take their time – to wander, sample, return for seconds, and talk a little longer between courses.

At the heart of the spread is a balance between festive classics, indulgent Western favourites and beloved local flavours, making it a crowd-pleaser for families, groups of friends and mixed palates.

Seafood lovers will immediately gravitate towards the fresh seafood section, where the spread glistens invitingly under soft lighting.

Plump mussels, scallops and juicy prawns sit alongside clean, delicate sashimi-style slices of tuna and salmon, each cut promising freshness with every bite.

Red baby octopus, served chilled, adds a touch of elegance and variety – tender, ocean-fresh, and an irresistible bite to the spread. It is the kind of selection that encourages diners to return “just one more time.”

Christmas would not be complete without traditional roasts, and Sheraton Kuching delivers generously.

Golden Roasted Chicken, tender Lamb Shoulder with Mushroom Ragout, and perfectly Seared Red Snapper Fillet on Corn-Shrimp Ragout, among other festive favourites, fill the air with comforting aromas that feel unmistakably like Christmas.

Mashed Pumpkin with Parmesan Cheese adds warmth and sweetness, pairing beautifully with the savoury mains and making every mouthful feel indulgent yet familiar.

Adding a touch of drama to the spread are the special menu highlights, including a beautifully prepared Salmon Wellington, where flaky pastry meets tender fish, and the much-talked-about Tomahawk Steak, carved to order and ideal for sharing. These centrepiece dishes elevate the buffet from everyday indulgence to true festive celebration.

Local flavours that feel like home

In true Malaysian fashion, the buffet does not stop at Western fare. A thoughtfully curated local section ensures that festive dining still feels rooted in familiar tastes.

Guests can look forward to comforting dishes such as Yang Zhao Fried Rice, Asam Pedas Ikan, Sambal Sotong Petai, Pajeri Nanas, Black Pepper Chicken Fillet, and Wok Fried Prawn with Celery among others.

These dishes bring warmth, spice and nostalgia to the table — the kind of food that sparks conversation and reminds diners that Christmas in Malaysia is as much about cultural blending as it is about tradition.

For those who appreciate balance on their plates, the fresh vegetables and fruits section is a visual delight. Featuring a vibrant selection of greens, fruits and an array of kerabu — traditional Malaysian salads bursting with colour and texture — this section offers refreshing contrasts to the richer mains. It is a reminder that festive dining can be indulgent without feeling overwhelming.

Desser.t dreams and sweet finales

If there is one area where the Whimsical Wonderland theme truly shines, it is the dessert section.

Beautifully decorated and almost too cute to touch, the spread feels like stepping into a festive fairy tale – a playground for anyone with a sweet tooth.

A grand gingerbread house, crafted in festive detail and entirely edible, takes centre stage, drawing guests in even as they hesitate to take the first bite because it looks simply too beautiful to disturb.

Surrounding it is an enticing selection of cakes, tartlets, macarons, puddings and sweet treats, each thoughtfully presented with playful, Christmas-themed touches.

The experience is elevated further with Sam’s Ice Cream and a charming strawberry fountain, adding both indulgence and a sense of childlike fun – the kind that invites guests to linger, return for seconds, and end the evening on a blissfully sweet note.

Children (and adults) will find themselves lingering here, plates filling up with colourful selections — a sweet ending that perfectly captures the joy of Christmas dining.

Ringing in the New Year

The celebrations do not end with Christmas. Sheraton Kuching is also hosting its New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day Dinner Buffet at Nomadic Restaurant on December 31 and January 1, 2026, from 6.30pm to 10pm, also priced at RM298 nett per person.

It is an ideal way to welcome 2026 — whether by counting down with loved ones or easing into the new year with a comforting, indulgent meal.

For those looking to take the celebration a little higher, the New Year’s Countdown at the Sheraton Club Lounge, located on Level 22, offers a more intimate way to usher in the new year.

Starting from 9pm onwards on December 31, guests can enjoy panoramic city views, a lively countdown atmosphere, and two complimentary drinks — house wine or beer — for RM100 nett per person.

More than just a buffet, Sheraton Kuching’s Whimsical Wonderland is about creating moments — shared laughter over dessert, long conversations over second helpings, and the simple joy of being together as one year ends and another begins.

For reservations or enquiries, guests may call 082-221188 or WhatsApp 013-6330688. This Christmas and New Year, let the table be full, the conversations flow freely, and the celebrations linger just a little longer.
