SIBU: Over 1,000 people young and old alike thronged the SMI Park at West Bank here on Saturday evening (Dec 19) for the joyful festive event of ‘Light Up the West Bank Christmas Celebration’.

The event organised by Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) Sungai Sadit Kanan in collaboration with Ching Ang Methodist Church was graced by Sibu Division Chinese Community Paramount Chief, Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming as the guest of honour.

In his speech, Lau said community connection and good rapport can be fostered through an event such as this.

“It is important that we take a moment to appreciate how far we have come and acknowledge the contributions made by everyone.

“As we enjoy the fellowship this evening and count down the final days of the year, let us reflect not only on what we have achieve but also look forward with confidence and optimism to the goals that still lie ahead,” he stated.

He expressed heartfelt appreciation to the committee members for their dedication, hard work, and commitment in steering JKKK Sungai Sadit Kanan towards serving the needs of the community.

He hopes all community leaders will continue to perform their roles with dedication and integrity, and to organise more meaningful activities that will benefit the people, contributing positively to the development of the community, society and state.

The joyous evening featured the ‘Light Up the West Bank’ Christmas Light-Up Ceremony, message sharing by pastors, as well as variety of song and dance performances presented by different churches and community groups, showcasing a vibrant blend of faith and culture.

There were also many interactive games and quizzes, along with lucky draws featuring up to 60 prizes to be won, adding joy and excitement for attendees of all ages.

The programme culminated with a mass singing of ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’, a group photo session, and a spectacular fireworks display, bringing the celebration to a memorable close.
