KUCHING: Several roads around the Kuching Waterfront will be temporarily closed to facilitate the New Year Countdown 2026 celebration this Wednesday (Dec 31).
Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the road closures will be enforced from 4 pm on Dec 31 until 2 am on Jan 1, in conjunction with the countdown event to be held.
Among roads affected by the temporary closure are Jalan Main Bazaar-Lebuh Wayang; Jalan Market-Jalan Gambier; Lebuh Java-Jalan Gambier; Jalan Lebuh Java; Jalan Wawasan-Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg; Wisma Pelita slip road; St Mary slip road dan traffic light; and Jalan Main Bazaar-Lebuh Temple.
In light of this, the public is advised not to park vehicles by the roadsides in the affected areas and to plan their journeys early by using alternative routes to help reduce traffic congestion.
