As Sarawak enters the final stretch toward its 2030 development goals, state leaders are stepping into 2026 with renewed focus, confidence and determination. With major policies now taking shape on the ground and momentum building across key sectors such as infrastructure, education, tourism and economic transformation, Sarawakian leaders believe the coming year will be one of consolidation, unity and accelerated progress.

Snowdan

Sarawak leaders shared their hopes and wishes for 2026 with Sarawak Tribune, reflecting a shared vision of a stable, harmonious and forward moving Sarawak where every community, whether urban or rural, benefits from the state’s rapid development and rising prosperity.

Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan highlighted the progress of major initiatives under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Our aspiration to be a star in ASEAN is not far-fetched. I foresee a revival of the ‘feel-good factor’ in 2026, if not better. Peace and harmony prevail as development continues at a greater pace and the people can feel the difference,” he said.

Billy

He urged his constituents to remain united and embrace the ongoing development delivered by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government. Snowdan also expressed confidence that Sarawak will continue to attract both domestic and international tourists.

“With activities and events supported by the ministry, combined with the rollout of AirBorneo next year, we expect a significant boost to our tourism, creative industry and performing arts sectors,” he added.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang shared his hopes for a “stronger, more united and forward-looking Sarawak,” where progress is felt equally across urban and rural communities.

“Our priorities for 2026 are clear: to accelerate transformative development, strengthen our economy and close the urban–rural gap. We aim to empower our youth with skills and opportunities, and to uplift communities through inclusive and sustainable growth,” he said.

Billy expressed optimism that 2026 will bring renewed confidence and harmony.

“Together, let us move with purpose as we build a brighter, more competitive and hopeful Sarawak for generations to come.”

Doris

Sri Aman MP Datuk Seri Doris Brodie echoed the call for progress, unity and shared prosperity.

“Let us empower our youth through quality education and skills development, while narrowing the rural–urban development gap to ensure Vision 2030 becomes a reality,” she said.

She also emphasised the importance of environmental stewardship and resilient communities.

“With collective effort, Sarawak will shine brighter, stronger and more inclusive for everyone. Let us continue to uphold the Sarawak First spirit towards Sarawak Maju Makmur,” Doris added.

Henry

Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep highlighted Sarawak’s rapid transformation in recent years, noting that state revenue has doubled from RM6 billion in 2017 to more than RM12 billion in 2024.

“As a result, so much has been achieved – from physical infrastructure and socio-economic programmes to education and welfare assistance under Sumbangan Keperluan Asas,” he said.

He called on Sarawakians to remain united and continue supporting the Premier’s leadership.

“Together, we can stay on course towards achieving Sarawak as a developed state by 2030.”

Tiang

Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang extended his New Year greetings and expressed optimism for 2026. He said the state enters the year with confidence under the leadership of the Premier, whose policies in economic diversification, digital transformation, renewable energy and infrastructure have positioned Sarawak on a firm path toward sustainable growth.

“My hope for 2026 is that Sarawak will continue to progress as a united, resilient and forward-driven state,” Tiang said.

He also emphasised that good governance, political stability and cooperation between the state leadership and the people will be key to advancing development.

“With unity and collective effort, we can continue to build a stronger Sarawak that offers greater opportunities and a better quality of life for present and future generations,” he added.
