KUCHING: Expensive price tags offered no protection as the Road Transport Department (RTD) took firm action against high-end vehicles caught flouting basic road regulations during a targeted enforcement operation.
Carried out under Op Luxury, enforcement officers impounded two premium vehicles after inspections found both were being driven with long-expired road tax and insurance.
Among those seized was a Lamborghini Urus, worth over RM1 million, after authorities discovered its road tax and insurance had expired on April 15 this year.
Also taken off the road was a BMW X1, valued at more than RM250,000, which was found to have been operating without valid road tax and insurance since Oct 29 last year.
RTD stressed that enforcement applies equally to all motorists, regardless of vehicle brand, value or status, as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard road users and ensure compliance with the law.
Members of the public are advised to ensure their vehicles’ road tax and insurance coverage remain valid at all times before using public roads, or risk facing enforcement action.
