SRI AMAN: A quiet night at a longhouse in Tambak Engkelili turned into an anxious wait after a 60-year-old man vanished without a trace, prompting the launch of a search and rescue (SAR) operation.

The man, identified as Chin Shin Fah, was last seen at Rumah Baie Merio, attending a prayer ceremony with his family on Saturday (Jan 3).

At around 11.30 pm, he is believed to have stepped out from the longhouse’s ruai and did not return.

When Chin failed to reappear, family members and longhouse residents began searching the surrounding area, but their efforts yielded no sign of him.

Concerned for his father’s safety, the victim’s son lodged a police report the following day (Jan 4), triggering the SAR operation.

Chin was last seen wearing a silver long-sleeved shirt and dark-coloured shorts.

Firefighters from Sri Aman station have since been deployed to assist in the search, travelling about 75km to reach the scene.

As at press time, Chin remains missing and search efforts are ongoing.
