SADONG JAYA: A total of 145 students from the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency received early school preparation assistance through the ‘Back To School’ (BTS) programme for 2026.

Organised by the Batang Sadong Parliamentary Service Centre in collaboration with the Samarahan District Education Office (PPD), the programme was aimed at easing the financial burden on families while ensuring students are ready for the new school session beginning on January 11.

Batang Sadong Member of Parliament, Rodiyah Sapiee, said the ‘Back To School’ programme is an annual initiative consistently implemented to support the welfare and education of children in the Batang Sadong constituency.

“This year, 145 students were identified as recipients, comprising 100 primary school pupils and 45 secondary school students from Year One to Form Five, involving 13 schools under the administration of the Samarahan District Education Office,” she said during the programme at Dewan Masjid Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yaakub on Wednesday.

She explained that the assistance included school bags, stationery items, scientific calculators for secondary students and other essential school supplies.

In addition, free hair-cut services were also provided in collaboration with Kelab Belia Sejati Sadong to further prepare students for the new academic term.

According to her, the initiative not only helps to reduce parents’ financial burden but also serves to boost students’ motivation and confidence as they begin the new school year.

Rodiyah added that throughout 2025, a total of RM607,350 had been allocated for education-related initiatives in the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency, covering programmes such as study incentives, school and parent-teacher association (PTA) activities, ‘Back To School’ assistance, laptop contributions for Lower Six students, as well as incentives for outstanding SPM and STPM students.

She expressed hope that similar programmes would continue to be strengthened with broader collaboration in the future to ensure that no child in Batang Sadong is left behind in accessing education.
