Sarawak CPO output slips in December

KUCHING: Sarawak’s monthly crude palm oil (CPO) production volume in December 2025 dropped to 432,051 tonnes from 456,418 tonnes in November, or down by 24,367 tonnes or 5.34 per cent.

The decline was in line with the country’s total CPO output which fell to 1,829,761 tonnes from 1,935,510 tonnes or decrease of 105,749 tonnes or 5,46 per cent month-on-month, according to latest preliminary monthly production data released by Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

While CPO production volume in Peninsula Malaysia shrank by 81,912 tonnes (–7.86%) to 960,428 tonnes in December (November: 1,042,340 tonnes), Sabah buck the trend with increased production of 530 tonnes (0.12%) to 437,282 tonnes (436,752 tonnes) during the same period.

On CPO closing stock, there was a significant increase in Sarawak by 63,176 tonnes (+15.7%) to 465,464 tonnes in December (402,288 tonnes) although the nationwide increase was lesser and only by 78,860 tonnes (+4.52%) to 1,821,853 tonnes (1,742,993 tonnes). In Sabah, the CPO inventory rose by 40,072 tonnes (+8.55%) to 40,072 tonnes to 508,913 tonnes in December (468,841 tonnes) whereas Peninsula Malaysia’s stock had in fact fell by 24,388 tonnes (–2.8%) to 847,476 tonnes (871,864 tonnes).  

The MPOB figures revealed that in December, Sarawak’s processed palm oil climbed by 7,333 tonnes (+5.11%) to 150,862 tonnes (143,529 tonnes) in tandem with a sharp increase of 136,160 tonnes (+12.46%) to 1,228,745 tonnes (1,092,585

tonnes) recorded for the whole country. 

In Peninsular Malaysia, processed palm oil volume surged by 146,235 tonnes (21.99%) to 811,194 tonnes (654,959 tonnes).

In contrast, Sabah recorded a decline of 17,408 tonnes (–6.13%) in processed palm oil to 266,689 tonnes in December (284,097 tonnes).

Overall, Malaysia’s total palm oil production volume in December climbed by 121,847 tonnes (+7.93%) to 1,658,670 tonnes (1,536,823 tonnes), with the increase in Sarawak was the highest in percentage term. 

Sarawak’s output leapt by 70,509 tonnes (+12.92%) to 616,326 tonnes in December (545,817 tonnes), followed by Peninsula Malaysia which rose by 121,847 tonnes (+7.92%) to 1,658,670 tonnes (1,536,823 tonnes) and Sabah by 226,654 tonnes (3.01%) to 775,602 tonnes (752,938 tonnes).

Nationwide, the closing inventory for palm oil jumped to 3,050,598 tonnes (2,835,578 tonnes).

Last month, Malaysia palm kernel production volume slipped to 434,539 tonnes (November: 442,266 tonnes) but production of palm kernel oil and palm kernel cake increased to 209,856 tonnes (207,679 tonnes) and 229,985 tonnes (225,357 tonnes) respectively. 

Month-on-month, the country’s closing stock for palm kernel was reduced to 183,471 tonnes (186,737 tonnes) but that of palm kernel oil shot up to 329,764 tonnes (314,840 tonnes) and pam kernel cake fell significantly to 249,493 tonnes (280,195 tonnes).

On export, Malaysia’s palm oil shipments to overseas markets climbed by 103,392 tonnes (+8.52%) to 1,316,522 tonnes in December (1,213,130 tonnes) whereas palm kernel oil’s exports increased sharply by 12,959 tonnes (+14.85%) to 100,224 tonnes (87,265 tonnes) and palm kernel cake performed even better with increased exports by 52,001 tonnes (+22.78%) to 280,296 tonnes (228,295 tonnes).

Month-on-month, Malaysia also reported higher export volume of olechemocals by 71,059 tonnes (+33.49%) to 283,261 tonnes (212,203 tonnes). On the other hand, the export volume of biodiesel contracted by 35,362 tonnes (–75.14%) to 11,697 tonnes (47,059 tonnes).

In December, Malaysia reported a sharp increase of 10,115 tonnes (43.64%) in the imports of processed palm oil to 33,292 tonnes (23,176 tonnes).
