SIBU: A 27-year-old foreign national died after sustaining serious head injuries believed to have resulted from a fight near a hotel here in the early Thursday morning (Jan 15).
Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said police received a report at about 4.22 am after a man alerted authorities that the victim had been brought to Sibu General Hospital unconscious.
“Initial investigations found that the victim was involved in a fight near a hotel in Sibu. He was later confirmed dead at Sibu General Hospital due to severe head injuries,” he said in a statement.
He added that three men, aged between 27 and 31 were arrested to assist in the investigation following the report.
Preliminary checks showed that all three suspects sustained injuries to their arms and bodies, believed to be linked to the incident. Police also confirmed that the suspects have no prior criminal records.
Zulkipli said the suspects will be remanded to facilitate further investigations.
“The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
“The motive of the incident is still under investigation,” he added.
The public has been advised not to speculate on the case, warning that such actions could interfere with ongoing investigations.
