KUCHING: The Sarawak Women Leadership Chair (SWLC), which was approved by the Sarawak Cabinet on August 21 last year, has been officially renamed the Datuk Amar Juma’ani Chair following approval by Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the renaming reflects the state government’s continued commitment to strengthening women’s leadership development and nurturing capable, confident women leaders across Sarawak.
“The objective is to empower women through education and skills training, while strengthening leadership capabilities among women across Sarawak,” she said at a press conference at Wisma Wanita here today.
She added that the chair will serve as a central platform for leadership programmes, skills development, research, and community engagement, implemented through various strategic partnerships.
“These collaborations include the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service, the Centre for Performance Excellence (SCOPE), Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (TEGAS), and the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS),” she said.
The state government has approved a one-off allocation of RM5 million for the establishment of the chair, which has two main objectives – empowering women through high-impact programmes and enhancing leadership competencies among women.
Fatimah stressed that all programmes under the chair must be impactful and sustainable, in line with Sarawak’s broader agenda of diversity, equality, equity and inclusivity.
