KUCHING: Three Sarawakian women will be given the opportunity each year to pursue a Master of Arts in Leadership Development at the ASEAN Women Leadership University College (AWLUC) in Penang under a state-supported scholarship programme.
Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the initiative aims to nurture future women leaders by providing access to advanced leadership education at the regional level.
She announced that the first intake will begin in February 2026, with the one-year programme conducted on a full-time basis.
“We are grateful to the Premier of Sarawak for approving the allocation that enables three qualified Sarawak women each year to further their studies in leadership development,” she said in her address at Wisma Wanita today.
Fatimah said that applications for future intakes, including the 2027 cohort, will be opened through the relevant website, and applicants are required to submit their applications together with their resumes to the Sarawak Women and Family Department.
She added that special selection panel will evaluate and shortlist candidates based on merit and suitability.
She expressed hope that the scholarship programme would create a strong pipeline of women leaders who can contribute meaningfully to Sarawak’s social, economic and governance landscape.
