KOTA PADAWAN: Preliminary investigations indicate that a collision involving a damaged vehicle triggered the fatal road accident that claimed two lives along Jalan Puncak Borneo early this morning.

Padawan Police Chief, Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, said the accident occurred at 5.00 am and involved three vehicles – a Perodua Myvi, a Proton Iswara and a Proton Exora.

“Initial findings revealed that the Perodua Myvi had rear-ended a Proton Iswara that was already damaged on the road. The impact caused the Myvi to lose control, veer into the opposite lane and collide head-on with an oncoming Proton Exora,” he said in a statement.

He added that the crash resulted in the deaths of the Myvi driver, a 33-year-old man, and the Exora driver, a 37-year-old woman. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Proton Iswara sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.

Irwan said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He also appealed to members of the public who may have witnessed the accident or have relevant information to come forward to assist in the investigation.

Those with information can contact investigating officer, Insp. Kenneystra Pius, at 014-982 8198.
