KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has lodged a police report against Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY), accusing the movement of malicious attacks, contempt of court and abuse of legal processes.
In a press statement on Saturday (Jan 17), SUPP outlined several grounds for the complaint, focusing on DAPSY’s recent revival of allegations that were already settled by the courts more than four years ago.
The party pointed to a Kuala Lumpur High Court decision from August 2020, which dismissed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) application to forfeit civil assets totalling RM188,138.26.
The court had ordered the funds returned to SUPP, ruling that the money had no connection to the 1MDB scandal.
Despite this final ruling, SUPP claimed DAPSY had recently resurrected the same allegations and sensationalised the issue publicly, thereby challenging judicial authority and undermining public confidence in the justice system.
SUPP alleged the timing of DAPSY’s actions suggests political revenge.
The police report comes shortly after the High Court ruled in favour of SUPP president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian in a defamation case against Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen, awarding RM500,000 in damages.
“This move is clearly an act of malicious political retaliation rather than a genuine effort to uphold justice,” SUPP said, accusing DAPSY of exploiting legal mechanisms for political purposes.
The party contended that DAPSY’s actions violated the principle of res judicata, which prevents matters already decided by courts from being relitigated.
SUPP suggested the timing, with elections approaching, revealed DAPSY’s intent to attack its main political rival in Sarawak.
The party urged the authorities to investigate DAPSY’s conduct and take appropriate legal action.
“SUPP calls on the public to discern fact from political manipulation, and to uphold the rule of law and social justice,” the statement concluded.
