KUCHING: Women in Kampung Segu Bunuk have been urged to continue transforming their mindset, remain proactive and boldly seize new economic opportunities in line with Sarawak’s aspiration to become a high-income state.

Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said adapting to changing times and embracing new approaches were crucial in improving family well-being and driving village development.

He was speaking at a New Year get-together organised by the Kampung Segu Bunuk Women’s Affairs Bureau here on Sunday (Jan 18).

Dr Jerip, who is the Deputy Minister of Transport, added that the organisation of the event at a hotel for the first time reflected a positive shift in thinking and greater openness among the local community, particularly women, towards progress and development.

“Women play a significant role not only in managing households but also in contributing to the community economy and social development.

“A willingness to adapt and move forward is essential to ensure sustained growth at the grassroots level,” he said.

According to UKAS, Dr Jerip also stressed the importance of unity among villagers from several settlements, calling for collective spirit, determination and a shared development direction to ensure balanced progress in the area.

He further urged women to leverage technology and modern methods in their daily lives and economic activities to remain relevant and competitive, in line with the Sarawak government’s target of achieving a minimum household income of RM14,000 per month.

Meanwhile, he said the area will be known as the Sarawak Delta Geopark starting June, which is expected to open up new opportunities in the tourism sector through small and medium enterprises, local products and tourism support services.

In support of the bureau’s ongoing efforts, Dr Jerip approved an allocation of RM30,000 under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant to the Kampung Segu Bunuk Women’s Affairs Bureau to strengthen the implementation of community programmes and activities.
