SRI AMAN: Plans to rebuild two critical bridges in Simanggang have been submitted, with the aim of providing residents with safe and sustainable long-term access, particularly to schools.
Simanggang assemblyman Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said the proposal has been tabled with the Public Works Department (JKR), which has been tasked to prepare detailed plans and designs for the reconstruction.
“It is my responsibility as an elected representative to go on the ground to inspect and monitor the needs and issues faced by the people in Simanggang.
“I also hope for continued cooperation from the public to ensure that government projects can be implemented smoothly.”
The Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development added that the bridges inspected during the visit were the suspension bridge at Rumah Mary Tuba, Kampung Munggu Demam, Batu Lintang Undop, and the bridge linking residents to SK Nanga Klassen.
At Kampung Munggu Demam, Tuai Rumah Mary Tuba raised concerns over a RM470,000 river erosion barrier project near the suspension bridge.
Harden spent about half an hour assessing the bridge’s condition before continuing to SK Nanga Klassen.
At the school, Harden and his team were welcomed by headmaster Welfred Manjan Radin, who accompanied the delegation to inspect the main bridge used by local residents and school staff.
The visit was also joined by officers from the JKR and the Sri Aman District Council to review technical requirements and coordinate follow-up actions.
