KUCHING: The federal government remains committed to addressing the issue of Sarawakians without identification documents, particularly those living in the state’s interior areas.
Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said this after chairing a Steering Committee meeting of the Special Task Force on Sarawak Residents Without Identification Documents together with Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during his visit to Sarawak today.
Saifuddin said the lack of identification documents, especially among communities in remote areas, remained a key concern requiring coordinated action between the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Sarawak government.
“The issue of residents without identification documents, particularly in Sarawak’s interior, is among the matters we are giving serious attention to,” he said in a Facebook statement.
He said both the ministry and the Sarawak government were working closely to ensure affected individuals were not left behind and could be assisted through appropriate mechanisms.
He expressed confidence that with continued cooperation among all parties, efforts were moving towards a better and more comprehensive solution to resolve the long-standing issue.
