Man rescued after suicide attempt at Kuala Baram wharf

MIRI: Firefighters rescued a man following a reported suicide attempt at the old wharf in Kampung Muhibbah, Kuala Baram, on Wednesday evening (Jan 21), authorities said.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) confirmed it received an emergency call at 5.34 pm, prompting the immediate dispatch of a fire rescue tender from the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station.

Upon arrival at the scene at 5.43 pm, responders found the victim in a weakened condition but showing signs of movement.

Fire officers stabilised the man and placed him in a recovery position while awaiting medical support from the Ministry of Health.

An ambulance arrived shortly afterwards, administered emergency treatment, and transported the victim to hospital for further care.

The operation was brought under control by 5.50 pm and concluded at 6.54 pm. Fire appliances returned to base at 7.10 pm.

The 31 year-old victim is a resident of Kampung Muhibbah, Kuala Baram.

The operation was led by Lutong Fire Station chief and on-scene commander, PBT II Henry Jugah, with support from senior fire officers.

A total of nine personnel, including Police and three medical staff from the Ministry of Health, were also deployed.
