BINTULU: The Social Welfare Department here has launched a public appeal to trace the mother or relatives of a 12-year-old boy abandoned as a newborn.

The child, identified as Iman Fazri, was abandoned in Kampung Sebiew on March 15, 2013, shortly after being born at Bintulu Hospital.

“The mother, known as Siti, handed the infant to a caretaker temporarily but never returned or could be contacted,” according to the department today (Jan 22).

“Records show the boy was born on March 13, 2013, and has remained without contact from his mother or confirmed family members since the abandonment.

“Following investigations, the case falls under protection provisions of the Child Act 2001, as the child requires ongoing care, safety, and emotional stability.”

A court order was obtained placing the child under temporary care of a suitable guardian, known as OYLS, effective Dec 17, 2025.

“The measure aims to safeguard the child’s welfare while authorities continue efforts to identify his biological parents or extended family members,” the department added.

“Members of the public with information regarding the mother, father, or relatives are urged to assist ongoing investigations and documentation processes.”

Those with relevant details should contact the Social Welfare Department at its Bintulu office, where the case is handled by protection officer Dorethea Bayang.
