ISTANBUL, Turkiye: A powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the North Pacific Ocean off the Kamchatka region Thursday (Jan 22) in Russia’s Far East, according to the Unified Geophysical Service (UGS) of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
The quake occurred at 12.42 am local time (1242 GMT) at a depth of 52 kilometres (km), it said on Telegram.
It noted that the epicentre was 143 km south of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the region’s administrative centre.
