KUCHING: Charity work should continue because the problems it addresses have not disappeared – and in many cases, they are growing.
Puncak Borneo Member of Parliament, Datuk Willie Mongin, said through charity initiatives people are reminded that their strength lies not only in preserving their heritage, but also in extending a helping hand to those in need, regardless of background.
“Charity is not measured by the size of a donation, but by the sincerity of the heart behind it.
“Every contribution made, whether big or small, carries the same spirit of kindness and generosity,” he said at the presentation of student’s education assistance organised by Che Hoe Khor Moral Uplifting Association in Siburan today (Jan 23).
Willie lauded the association, which has long been a symbol of solidarity and mutual support, for their continued charity works.
He noted that today’s gathering is not only a celebration of unity among members, but also a reflection of their shared values – compassion, responsibility, and care for the community.
He said together, these efforts create real change and bring hope to those who need it most.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all donors, sponsors, volunteers, and committee members who have worked tirelessly to make this event a success.
“Your dedication and generosity are deeply appreciated and truly inspiring.
“Let us continue to uphold the values of Che Hoe Khor by strengthening our unity, supporting charitable causes, and passing on these noble values to future generations,” he said.
At the function, Willie also presented a cheque of RM20,000 to help ease the financial burden of the association’s activities and to fulfil their long-standing wish to acquire their own van.
Later he presented education assistance to 40 students from four schools in Siburan – SK Batu Siburan, SJK Chung Hua Siburan, SJKCC Beratok and SJKCC Tapah.
Che Hoe Khor Moral Uplifting Association’s Chairman Lee Chin Chan, Vice-Chairman Lee Kee San and organising chairman Bong Tee Kui were among those present at the event.
