KUCHING: A total of 1,000 bowls of ‘Laba’ porridge were distributed to the public at Kenyalang Market on Sunday morning (Jan 25) as part of a community outreach initiative.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng said such initiatives reflect the spirit of unity and harmony in Kuching’s diverse society, while strengthening community bonds through simple yet meaningful acts of kindness.
According to a statement issued by MBKS today, the porridge was prepared by the Seng Tong Buddhist Association as part of its annual community outreach programme, symbolising compassion, sharing and goodwill.
Wee also expressed appreciation to the Seng Tong Buddhist Association for its continued commitment to serving the community and promoting positive values through charitable initiatives.
The activity brought together MBKS councillors, volunteers and members of the local community in a warm celebration of cultural and spiritual values.
The distribution received an encouraging response from the public, with many welcoming the gesture as a reminder of compassion, gratitude and togetherness.
MBKS, Wee added, remains committed to supporting community-based initiatives that foster inclusiveness, mutual respect and social harmony among the people of the city.
